Discografia Anthrax

ORIGEM: Yonkers, New York / USA 

GÊNERO: Thrash Metal

Juntamente com Metallica, Megadeth e Slayer o Anthrax é considerado uma das bandas responsáveis pelo surgimento e definição da sonoridade que viria a ser conhecida como thrash metal, variante mais rápida e enérgica do heavy metal tradicional. O primeiro disco da banda, "Fistfull of Metal", é considerado um marco do estilo. Apesar da comum associação com o thrash e speed metal, o Anthrax (o nome foi tomado de um microorganismo desenvolvido para guerra bacteriológica) dificilmente poderia ser rotulada visto que flertou insistentemente no decorrer da carreira com estilos musicais tão diversos como metal, punk, hardcore, hip-hop, rap e industrial. As letras, ao contrário da temática clássica de bandas semelhantes, são bem humoradas e imprevisíveis. O núcleo da banda é formado por Scott Ian e Charlie Benante (os dois formam o SOD, com Dan Lilker, membro original do Anthrax mais tarde substituído por Frank Bello e que fundou o Nuclear Assault, e com o vocal do MOD Billy Milano). O vocalista original foi Neil Turbin, logo substituído por Joey Beladonna, por sua vez em 1992 substituído por John Bush (antes vocalista da banda Armored Saint). Dan Spitz deixaria a banda em 1994, sendo substituido nas gravações por um guitarrista de estúdio. No início da década de 90 a banda abandonou sua sonoridade exclusivamente thrash original e passou a se aventurar em flertes com o rap e hip-hop que culminaram em 1991 com uma tour conjunta com a banda Public Enemy. Com a mudança o público da banda encolheu sensivelmente, obrigando-os a montar seu próprio selo para continuar produzindo sem pressão de gravadoras. Em 1999 uma tour reunindo os dois vocalistas clássicos da banda, Bush e Belladonna, foi anunciada mas logo cancelada quando Belladonna desistiu por razões monetárias. A banda seguiu em tour com o Mötley Crue e Megadeth mas abandonou os palcos após alguns shows. A banda teve excessiva divulgação involuntária em 2001 quando dos atentados com a bactéria Anthrax nos Estados Unidos que se seguiram à queda do World Trade Center. A banda chegou a anunciar em um press release a mudança de seu nome para Basket Full Of Puppies (o que não ocorreu). Por bem ou por mal a banda em seguida saiu em uma bem sucedida tour com o Judas Priest, relançou parte de sua discografia e logo anunciou o lançamento de um novo álbum. Fonte: Anthrax
