O Diamond Head é mais uma das dezenas de banda saídas da NWOBHM. Ironicamente é mais conhecida por ter algumas de suas músicas coverizadas pelo Metallica do que por sua própria carreira. Uma das bandas mais influentes durante sua época de ouro, o Diamond Head foi formado em 1976 por Brian Tatler, Duncan Scott e o vocalista Sean Harris, considerado um dos melhores da NWOBHM. Colin Kimberley completou a banda. Ainda sem um nome definido, conseguiram um pequeno contrato, pelo qual lançaram sua primeira demo-tape em 1978, logo vindo a assumir o nome de Diamond Head. Pela obscura gravadora Happy Face Music, lançaram seu primeiro single, que levou o nome de "Shoot Out The Lights", já contendo uma das melhores músicas da banda, "Helpless", a primeira coverizada pelo Metallica. Este single fez bastante sucesso no underground inglês, levando a banda a uma extensa agenda de shows e grande divulgação. Seu primeiro LP veio logo a seguir, levando o nome "Lightining To The Nations". Esse foi provavelmente o melhor álbum do Diamond Head, que teve vários clássicos como a faixa-título "The Prince" e a música mais conhecida da banda "Am I Evil?", também coverizada pelo Metallica. Foram lançados após esse, o single "Sweet and Innocent" e o EP "The Diamonds Lights". Em 1981 a banda assinou com a MCA e lançou o EP "Four Cuts", contendo a clássica "Call Me". Foi lançado também o single "In The Heat Of The Night". O próximo álbum lançado foi "Living On... Borrowed Times". Esse álbum chegou até o número 24 nas paradas inglesas. A capa é um desenho de Rodney Matthews. Em 1983 foi lançado o single "Makin’ Music", seguido do álbum "Canterbury", que apesar de sua qualidade, não repetiu o sucesso de "Lightining For The Nations". Após a grande tour do álbum "Canterbury", a banda entrou em estúdio para gravar "Flight East", mas foi demitida da MCA. Talvez esse fosse um dos motivos pelo qual a banda viria a acabar, em 1985. Brian Tatler formou a banda Radio Moscow, de pop-rock, que tocava algumas músicas do Diamond Head em seus shows. Com Brian, o Radio Moscow gravou um EP. Logo após sua saída, chegou a gravar ainda o álbum "World Service". Já na década de 90, a banda se reuniu num show do Metallica para tocar "Am I Evil?" e "Helpless". Brian e Sean chamaram Eddie Chaos e Karl Wilcox (baixo e bateria, respectivamente) para a banda. Compondo um novo material, a banda começou a tocar em pubs ingleses com o nome de Dead Reckoning. Entraram em estúdio para gravar um EP chamado "Rising Up", já com o nome original. Após alguns shows, Eddie Chaos deu lugar na banda para Pete Vukovic, com quem gravaram o álbum "Death and Progress". Pete continuou na banda, e na tour desse álbum abriram para Megadeth e Metallica. A banda decidiu acabar novamente, mas deixando um último presente para os fãs. Fizeram, então, um último show em 1994, registrado no álbum ao vivo "Evil Live". O vocalista Sean Harris deixou o Diamond Head em 2004, sendo substituido por Nick Tart. Em fevereiro de 2005 a banda lançou um novo album com músicas inéditas "All Will Be Revealed".
